The Botanic Garden of Valencia was founded in 1567 to grow mainly medicinal plants. In 1802 the University definitively placed it in "el Huerto de Tramoyeres", outside the city walls, near the "Torres de Quart", where it stays nowadays. During the 20th century, the garden fell into abandom for a long time until, in 1987, the University of Valencia started the process of fully restoring it, which concluded in the year 2000.
The garden has a wonderful shadehouse, made of bricks and iron. It was designed in 1897 by the architect Mélida and was inaugurated in 1900. In 1990 was totally rebuilt after a fire.
